The Eastern Territory: Final Version by Will-Erwin The Eastern Territory: Final Version by Will-Erwin
The Dominion of Man strives to live up to its name in this region, as human settlers strive against the rugged, unforgiving wilderness, the expanding Wolfen Empire to the north, the squabbles of petty lords and city-states, and the corrupting influence of an ancient evil slumbering beneath the land. This map shows the bare geography of this region from The Palladium Fantasy Roleplaying Game by Palladium Books, and was commissioned by a fan of that game.

This is the final version of this map. It includes the political map that you can find here, along with some decorative elements and a legend/guide to the icons in the map. The wraparound inscription on the frame can be a little hard to read on a standard computer/laptop, so I'm pasting it below so you don't have to strain your neck to read it:

Humanity flourishes in the Eastern Territory, building hundreds of villages, scores of towns, and a dozen petty kingdoms among and atop the ruins of failed nations that dot this vast land. Pioneers settle the wilderness, traders journey by river and road, priests convert heathens, and scholars ponder the mysteries of ancient ruins. The opportunity of this land is rivaled only by the ambition of its would-be rulers. The Dominion of Man's loose alliance keeps the peace between its members, but their expansion north is met with the ascendant Wolfen Empire as it presses south into the Disputed Lands. In the gathering storm, warriors flock to the region, eager to spill blood for coin, gods, and race. The coming struggles will decide whether the proud cities of the Dominion will rule the east or join the ruins of their own foundations.

You can find high-definition versions of the Dominion members' heraldic shields here. If you prefer a map that focuses on the natural geography, you can find one here. If you prefer an unlabeled map, you can find the bare terrain here.

This map is absolutely phenomenal. I like how there's detail that defines each region, yet there's not too much detail, which would overwhelm the map. It's meant to be a representation of a larger area, and you did well in doing that.

The provision of the lore of this map gave me a reason to look around and see what was occurring in The Eastern Territory. While some might not call humanity's role in a medieval RPG-ish lore original, I think the story can be original and you can turn it into a huge story.

The depth perception used on the smaller scale is awesome! A lot of the rivers aren't pooling out into the ocean, which is very realistic. The area in the Western Disputed Lands where the Shattered Mountains cuts through the trees looks a bit round, but I think it's fine for a map on a larger scale like this one.

Overall, awesome job! Can't wait to see even more content from you!

Well, it's an interesting enough map, and effort has been put in with regards to the placing of the cities and the details thereof, but you have more than a few aesthetic problems.

The geographical features seem a bit rushed. The mountains and canyons and rivers, particularly in the north, look like they stick out of swathes of cleared forest. South of the Old Kingdom River you've done a stellar job with the details, but as you go north your colours are becoming too consistent. It's hard to pick out the features because they're on a background coloured too similarly from said features.

I love the attention you've given to the coastline and the islands, that's the highlight of this work. Consider that the Wolfen Empire is the clearest in terms of how visible the settlements are. For the other territories, the shields are too close in colour to the terrain.

The tool you used to paint the forest could be better. You've set a precedent for visibility and 3 dimensionality with those excellent mountains, which the forests do not live up to. They're too uniform, and again, find a way for them to recede more naturally from the large features. The heraldic symbols could be more stark from the map also. There's perhaps room for more visible cliffs on that excellent coastline.

Overall, it's a good map. There are lots of parts where your talents shine, and lots of parts that need improvement. I hope I wasn't too critical... but then I also hope I managed to be of assistance in some small way.

Thanks! Overall, busy! I've got a big project in the works, kids, new job, and a dissertation in progress, so I feel a bit like a one-legged dude in a kickboxing match.

Castle Instax is incorrectly placed. Otherwise love it.

Or rather, you have smuggler's pass too prominent. It's far less visible, hence why it's largely unknown (and unused for a very long time).

I did an image for it years ago, it's actually the fortified entrance to an ancient abandoned Dwarven city, and thus built right into the face of a mountain. Castle Instax by MADMANMIKE

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I agree, I made the pass too prominent, and Instax should be a bit higher up. I may do an extra round of revisions at some point later this year, and I'll add your suggestion to the fixes.
